Over 26,000 visitors – 18% increase and a record number of visitors at SachsenKrad 2020

Huge crowds at the Dresden Exhibition Centre: in its 26th year, SachsenKrad attracted over 26,000 visitors – an impressive increase of 18% over last year and the best result for the motorcycle show in over a decade. The trade fair thus reflects a current trend among fans of fast-paced leisure activities: motorcycling instead of skiing. The motorcycle dealers at the fair report that there is no longer a classic winter break in sales. And the industry association IVM also emphasizes that the warm, sunny weather was ideal for motorcycling and brought the industry a 6.5% increase in new registrations.
From January 17 to 19, more than 130 exhibitors presented themselves at the SachsenKrad on 10,000 square meters at the MESSE DRESDEN. The trade fair marks the start of the motorcycle year and in Dresden, all well-known manufacturers and their dealers, as well as more than 20 German premieres, are on display. The radically new Honda Fireblade, for example, celebrated its German premiere, as did the new BMW S 1000 XR and the BMW F 900 R and XR. Stefan Fricke from the BMW motorcycle center in Dresden is pleased about the new additions to the German motorcycle manufacturer's model range and emphasizes: “We clearly noticed the increase in visitors at the booth. A large proportion of the interested parties came from the surrounding area and came to us with specific purchase intentions.” Motorsport expert Bernd Fulk confirms the enormous visitor demand at the exhibition stands and is pleased about the great interest in the team presentations. The Freudenberg KTM World SSP Team and the Endurance World Championship team GERT56 were presented at SachsenKrad 2020.

Motorsports and SachsenKrad have belonged together from the very beginning, and the Special EnduroBase3 has been part of SachsenKrad for 5 years. The focus here was on the goal of recruiting new talent: German premieres of newly developed mini motocross motorcycles with electric drives were presented and tested by rookies. Electromobility in the two-wheeler sector is on the increase, and the SachsenKrad featured, among others, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, the world's first electrically powered motorcycle from a large-scale manufacturer, and the Vespa Elettrica – an electric scooter based on a classic model. A test track and new models ranging from pedelecs to cargo bikes were also on display at the 10th e-bike days, which took place at the same time as the SachsenKrad.
According to the industry association IVM, the outlook for 2020 is also positive: since December 31, 2019, drivers with five years of driving experience and a minimum age of 25 years can drive light scooters and motorcycles with 125 cubic centimeters after completing training. This is already common practice in large parts of Europe and is also intended to provide further impetus for two-wheeler mobility in Germany. According to the IVM, driving schools are already experiencing high demand for training, particularly in automatic and electric vehicles. And so, we can look forward to the new developments in 2020 and the next SachsenKrad at the end of January 2021 in Dresden.
