Dresden tips
Dresden inspires as a total work of art and is the most beautiful city in Germany according to the Brandmeyer City Brand Monitor 2015. Several million visitors come to the Elbe metropolis every year to marvel at its sights. The Saxon state capital attracts visitors with its unique historical ensemble of buildings, great history, world-class art treasures and very special flair.
The famous sights in the old town are just a few minutes' walk away. The rebuilt Frauenkirche and the surrounding Neumarkt are the tourist heart of Dresden's city center. Not far away is the Dresden Zwinger, probably the most important late baroque building with the world-famous Old Masters Picture Gallery and porcelain collection. The Royal Palace is home to the Green Vault, the most extensive and important collection of treasures in Europe. Other top sights such as the Semper Opera House, one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world, the Brühl Terrace - the "Balcony of Europe", the over 100-metre-long Prince's Procession made of porcelain tiles and the impressive Catholic Court Church are all in close proximity to each other.
With over 550,000 inhabitants, Dresden is the political, economic and scientific center of the Free State and one of the greenest cities in Europe. The Great Garden, the picturesque Elbe meadows, the Dresden Heath, numerous palaces, parks and green spaces in and around Dresden characterize the city's quality of life.
